You have the right to see what information a business may have learned about you which could include voice recordings, location data, shopping habits, entertainment preferences and more. You can also see who they are buying and selling the information to & from.
Leveraging the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is simple - but you must take action.
As a Californian the only step you need to take is to make a request of a business subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). There are several ways to potentially make your request:
Many businesses are required to have a “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” link on their homepage that enables you to opt-out, delete, and access your information. It is typically found at the bottom of their page.
Note: Many businesses are not making this easy. Some are hiding their opt-out forms behind layers of links, or burying it in long web pages.
Most businesses will provide a form like this one that will gather information so the business can identify you to fulfill your request. Businesses are not allowed to use this information for any other purpose other than to fulfll your request.
